From A Former College Apprentice
About The Program
Former LSF apprentices have moved on to positions with Oregon Shakespeare Festival, American Conservatory Theater, TheatreWorks and are working artists in New York, Chicago and LA as well as the Bay Area. Other former apprentices are running their own non-profit organizations or have become educators themselves. Several former apprentices took the skills they acquired with Livermore Shakespeare Festival and have successful careers in finance, biotech and social services. Many of our college apprentices graduate our summer program and move on to pursue their MFA’s with institutions such as Yale School of Drama, Boston Conservatory, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and The Old Globe/USD Graduate Theatre Program.Who
What
Apprentices commit to 30-50 hours a week with the outdoor Livermore Shakespeare Festival. Full apprentices receive compensation during the summer apprenticeship. Some housing in the homes of donors and board members is also available. Acting Apprentices perform in one or both shows, in the “library show” that tours libraries and fairs, understudy, and assist in other areas such as production including setting up for rehearsals and with promotional events. Management Apprentices serve as ASMs, Production, Box Office or Front of House Managers or assistant managers, and help out in other areas as needed. Load-in and Strike are required for all apprentices. Some crew positions are available. The diligent apprentice can learn about all areas of professional theater. To be considered, the student must be available for approximately 30 – 50 hours per week, though the longer weeks will be concentrated on tech and opening. Apprentices do not have to work in all areas. Once both shows are open there will be 3 days off each week, Monday – Wednesday to explore San Francisco.
A variety of free acting workshops in auditions, text work, and other areas will be offered to all college apprentices and high school interns.
Where
Rehearsals are indoors for the most part. Performances and tech are outdoors at Wente Vineyards Estate, 5565 Tesla Road, Livermore.
